Biography

Dr. Etiele Morais holds a degree in Food Engineering (2012), a Master’s (2015), and a PhD (2019) in Food Science and Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande (Brazil). She has extensive experience in microalgae cultivation, downstream processing, and biomass applications at laboratory, pilot, and industrial scales. Since 2008, she has been involved in a wide range of activities related to microalgae research, including CO₂ biofixation, wastewater treatment (lab and pilot scale), production of biostimulants and biofertilizers, development of bioplastics, as well as food and feed applications. Her expertise also includes random mutagenesis for microalgae strain improvement. Dr. Morais is currently a Ramón y Cajal researcher and professor at the Department of Agri-Food Engineering and Biotechnology at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and since 2022 she has been part of the Environmental Engineering and Microbiology Research Group (GEMMA).
