DECIRE-WATER - Decentralised Solutions for a Circular and Efficient Water Management
Web:
Description
DECIRE-WATER is a fast-track innovation action aimed at transforming the water sector by 2028. It provides pioneering, affordable, and sustainable decentralised water systems based on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and technical solutions tailored to local conditions. These systems will be demonstrated at TRL 7-8 across six sites in Europe and South Africa, integrating real-time monitoring and digital tools to ensure optimal performance, resilience, and sustainability. The project promotes circular water management, stakeholder engagement, and policy decision-making frameworks.
Objectives
-
Demonstrate decentralised water solutions at TRL 7–8 across diverse sites
-
Integrate nature-based and technical systems for water reuse
-
Develop digital tools for monitoring and decision-making
-
Engage stakeholders through co-design and co-creation
-
Validate sustainability and circularity of solutions
Impact
DECIRE-WATER will enhance water security, reduce environmental impact, and support EU policy goals. By 2035, it aims to benefit over 30 million citizens, reclaim over 7.8 million m³ of water annually, and create 200 new jobs in the water sector. It supports the European Green Deal, Zero Pollution Action Plan, Circular Economy Action Plan, and the Water Framework Directive.
