Biography

Dr. Fabiana Passos is Associate Professor at the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) (Brazil). Currently, she is a post-doctoral researcher at the GEMMA-UPC (Spain) with a Maria Zambrano fellowship funded by the Spanish Government. She obtained her MSc in Environmental and Resource Management at the Brandenburgische Technische Universitat (Germany) and her PhD in Environmental Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) (Spain).

Her research is mainly centred in sustainable sanitation systems in low-income areas and resource recovery in decentralised waste and wastewater treatment technologies. Particularly, optimising anaerobic digestion and co-digestion processes of organic waste, as microalgal biomass, food waste, agricultural residues and animal manure, for recovering bioenergy, biofertilizers and other bio-based products.
